
- Consider changing all outside door locks if you move into a new home.
- Front door – should have a minimum of 2 locks ideally a nightlatch and a mortice lock one of which needs to conform to British standards insurance approved.
- Side and back doors – preferbly fit a 5 lever BS 3621 mortice lock together with top and bottom key operated bolts.
- French windows/patio doors – fit appropriate locks to top and bottom of doors.
- Fit lockable window locks to ground floor windows as per your Insurance company policy and upstairs windows as an extra.
- Fit passive infra red lighting to front and rear of house.
- DON’T leave door keys in visible or obvious places such as under the doormat or rear wheel arch.
- DO lock all your doors and windows when you go out.
- Ensure any ladders are not left lying around.
- Keep your shed/outbuilding locked. Burglars will use YOUR tools to gain access to YOUR house.
- If you are going out for the evening an idea maybe is to close your curtains and leave a light on in the lounge & bedroom or a radio playing.
