Locksmith Challenge for Church door in Abbotsbury

I was called to look at a job in Abbotsbury at the local church built in 15th Century along with the double thick tower door.  On my arrival I was presented with a lock from the 1700,s.

On inspection it was going to be a big challenge.  After 10 minutes looking and talking to the building custodian, the solution that I came up with in the end was to secure the tower door from the outside with a locking mechanism secured into the concrete and hasp to the door using antique looking materials.

On jobs like this its great to see the old craftsman skills and how the old blacksmiths were faced with simular problems, one must always try and come up with a solution and make the effort that will be in keep with the natural look, retaining the character of these beautiful old buildings.
